Contains “191 posed photographs of motion picture stars, showing 499 different expressions and emotions.” Early stars such as Lillian Gish, John Barrymore, and Mary Pickford are shown in stills from their films, demonstrating “despair,” “brutality,” “hauteur,” among many other emotions. D.W. Griffith contributes an essay against censorship: “The Motion Picture and Witch Burners.”
